Grand Opening, Grand Closing
We had so much fun creating these episodes and appreciate everyone who supported this endeavor.
When I agreed to co-host the COI podcast, my goals were to,
Share my perspectives (beyond Twitter) as a Women of Color in Technology and Information Security while helping folks who look like me feel less alone.
To learn a new skill, namely the art of podcasting, by creating and launching a podcast from scratch.
I was able to accomplish this while also learning so much in the process.
2020 was yet another reminder of how short and fragile life is and how important it is to be intentional about how/where we spend our time.
After much thought, and a commitment to execute on this core belief moving forward, I have decided to step away from the COI Podcast. Why, well, we are only here for a short blip remember, and as such, I am choosing to focus on endeavors that closely align with my short & long-term goals.
While podcasting/content creation is fun, it is also a lot of work and requires much focus and commitment to the craft. I do enjoy podcasting but quickly learned that to deliver something I would be creatively proud of would take much more bandwidth than currently available. The great news is that it's not as scary as I thought, so who knows, you may hear from me in the future because it wouldn't be fair to keep all these ideas locked up in my brain. :)
Takeaways
Don't be afraid to try new things and pivot if/when required. Nothing is in vain; think about what you learned from the experience/process.
Be intentional about your why. Write down your goals/what you want in life and be unapologetic about this.
Be selective about opportunities, not the other way around. If an event/opportunity does not serve your long term goals, don't be afraid to say goodbye.
Leaving things to chance is not a strategy - As you navigate the world, please remember to surround yourself with a community of people who are intentional about growth.
Our time is finite, so if the time you spend on things does not serve a purpose, whether professionally, mentally, or physically, quickly decide whether it makes sense to spend any of your precious time on it.
Until then, you know where to find me.
Kudos: To Shellye Archambeau's - Reading her book "Unapologetically Ambitious" over a weekend reminded me how important it really is to remain unapologetic.
